Several blocks later they pulled into a deserted parking lot. The driver had had enough driving for the moment; Kai’s magic being stronger than anything that had ever weaved it’s way through his mind before. They all sat in stoned silence for a while, letting the cool night breeze wash over them as some Hendrix obligingly played on the radio. The guy in the passenger seat cranked it up a bit as Jimi kissed the sky.
The frat boys were in the seventh circle and Kai was kicking back with a satisfied grin on his face. Let the revels begin. He leaned forward between them.
“So, my brudders, you like the evening so far?”
They each lolled their heads in the direction of his voice with dreamy grins and nodded.
The driver found his voice.
“Hey man, by the way, my name is Sean, and this is my good friend Reeve.”
The passenger saluted Kai weakly and kept time with the music.
“Like I said, my name is Kai, and I’ll be your magic man this fine night. We gonna ride it like we mean it Sean. You down with that?”
Sean plastered a grin on his face and made a circle with his thumb and forefinger, then dropped his hand back into his lap. Reeve gave a thumbs up and it was all a go. Kai leaned back in the seat and looked up at the stars.
“Gentlemen, that’s what I like to hear. What kinda action you guys up for? I can make anything happen.”
The frat boys looked at each other and then turned to Kai.
“I don’t suppose you know any ladies that might be up for keeping us company, do you?”
Reeve tried to sound casual, but didn’t make much of a fist of it. Kai grinned and spread his arms wide.
“My brudders, I know just about all the fine mamas on the strip, you dig? Short ones, tall ones, big ones, round ones, whatever you like.”
He took out his phone and started dialling. He talked for a few minutes and then snapped the phone shut and put it away with a flourish.
“We’re on, gentlemen. I got some fine young women just dyin’ to meet you two. Let’s head out.”
The driver perked up at the news and turned the ignition key. They pulled back into the street and cruised down the strip tripping on the constantly changing sea of neon, mesmerizing and tempting all comers with promises of earthly delights to be sampled at every turn. Kai directed them to a street near the end of the strip and they turned into a narrow alley with a garish neon sign sporting a dancing hula girl near the end. They parked right out front and Kai led them to a door down a short flight of stairs. He gave a coded knock and the door was answered by a muscle-bound gorilla in a black turtleneck adorned with several heavy gold chains.
Kai gave him a brother handshake and Reeve and Sean could have sworn they saw something green exchanged. They were invited into a dark smoky room with an assortment of characters that would have been at home in a straight-to-DVD movie. Kai greeted some of them as they passed on their was to a curtained door at the back of the club.
Kai stopped them at the curtain and turned to them with a wide grin.
“My brudders, your dreams are about to come true. Let me do the talking while your fingers do the walking, you dig?”
They flashed him dopey grins and Kai pulled the curtain aside and ushered them in to a world they had never experienced before.
