Southern Discomfort – Part 7

They were having the time of their lives. Krystal was in a great mood and Boudreaux felt more relaxed than he had in longer than he could remember. Soon enough lunchtime rolled around and they headed for The Crab House. Krystal was fond of stone crabs and she just knew they’d be on the menu.

Bubba and Amber were waiting for them and waved them over to the table they’d reserved. Even the sight of those two couldn’t put a dent in Krystals mood and she gave them both a big smile as she sat down.

“So. Everybody hungry?”

The waitress brought menus and water and they talked about which rides they’d gone on the shows they’d been to. They all decided on stone crabs. Conversation came to a halt when they were served. The food was amazing. So amazing the boys opted for seconds. The girls were not to be outdone.

“Well damn, that was really something. Good thinking, Krystal. You’re one smart lady.”

Krystal beamed at Bubba in spite of herself. She caught herself thinking she might have misjudged him but came to her senses. Then Amber piped up.

“So have y’all been on the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster yet?”

“What’s that?” Boudreaux hadn’t heard of it.

“Oh hell, boy.”  Bubba’s eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. “It’s the Aerosmith coaster. It’s a blast!”

“Sounds like fun.” Krystal was fond of roller coasters, as was Boudreaux.

“Well hell’s bells, whatdya say we all go on it together right now?”

Krystal noticed that Amber was looking dubious.

“What’s the matter girl, don’t like coasters?”

“Well…they’re alright. I go on them sometimes.”

Bubba put his arm around her. “Aw, she gets scared, but hey, you’re a trooper, right girl?”

She gave him a big smile. “Sure Bubba, I’ll go on it.”

They all headed for Hollywood Studios and fetched up in front of the giant red electric guitar at the entrance to the ride. Bubba let out one of his rebel yell much to the amusement of everyone but Krystal and in they went.

The line wasn’t very long and they got to the beginning and waited through the lead up to the ride and then down to the parking garage to get on the coaster. The boys were hot to be in the first car to get the full effect of the g-force. After a bit of back and forth over the matter the girls opted to sit in the seat behind them, Amber being too afraid to sit up front with Bubba.

Noticing Amber eyeing the “chicken out” exit and hesitating before climbing in Krystal couldn’t help feeling a bit maternal. She patted Amber’s arm and gave her a reassuring smile as she sat down next to her.

“It’ll be fun girl. Just relax and go with it. Be over before you know it.”

“Thanks Krystal. I feel better being back here with you.”

The countdown began, the music swelled and they shot forward into the dark tunnel before them. Amber let out a scream that was nearly drowned out by another rebel yell from Bubba as they accelerated from 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.

As the coaster shot into the first loop Krystal felt Amber’s hand on her arm.

“Krystal…I don’t feel so good…”
